Rowland Cup Champions

Rowland cup1

Congratulation to Leigh Park Bowls Club Men’s A Team in winning the Rowland Cup beating Division 1 Champions Waverley in the final. 78 v 77. A wonderful result for a small club like ours, with 3 rinks finished
Leigh Park were 5 shots behind. It was down to the rink of Dave Vintin to do the business, they got 6 shots on the next 3 ends. Waverley only getting 1 shot on the last end, meaning that we had won the cup. In our last league game against Lee on the Solent played on Sunday. Leigh Park won 96 – 75 keeping us up in Division 1 after winning Division 2 last season.

Well done all on a great season.

Red team – Div 3

The Red Team sat in second place in division 3 and dreamt of promotion, but tonight saw us slip again away at Eastney and before tonight they sat in 4th position. That doesn’t mean the rinks didn’t work hard to get results.

Rink 1 we’re almost level after 9 ends, but that break for a cup of tea changed it all and they were beaten 15-27 after their opens scored a couple of 4’s and a 5.

Rink 2 were 0-9 down after 5 ends, but thanks to 4 winning ends including 5 they pulled it back to lead 11-10at the tea break, the remaining ends of the match went predominantly to LPBC which saw them run out 20-16 winners and gain 2 points.

Rink 3 had a nightmare start and were down 0-14 after 7 ends, but then a stunning 5 pulled them back and gave them hope. The home side though won 8 of the last 11 ends and finished the stronger winning 13-28

The overall result ended LPBC 48 – Eastney 71 and thereby took 10 of the 12 points available.

It’s not over until the fat lady sings they say, but we can hear her getting tuned up

Up The Park

P & D Mixed pairs

Tonight saw an epic battle with Shirley Ray and Dave Vintin versus Jamie & Tania Ward in the P&D mixed pairs competition. The sad thing was that both pairs were from Leigh Park and one pair had to go out.

The match started slowly and tentatively with neither pair giving much and after 6 ends the score was 4-5 to The Wards. The next 9 ends gave the Wards the impetus and they moved ahead of the home drawn pair 7-17 after 15 ends, heads could have gone down and heads could have assumed victory, but with a high scoring six on the 16th end Shirley & Dave pulled it back to 13-17 with 5 ends to play.

After that six Shirley & Dave scored on the next three ends taking it to 19-17 on the 19th end. The light was rapidly fading as it was 8.30 and Jamie & Tania took 2 points on the 20th end to level the score with only one end to play.

On end 21 Shirley and Dave got woods on the jack and forced Jamie to play some aggressive shots to try and dislodge the jack from its stranglehold, but as Jamie played his last wood, he moved one and reduced the count to 2, so Shirley didn’t have to play the very last wood and the 2 points gave them victory on the last end to win 21-19.

Shirley and Dave are now in the quarter final with an away tie, opponents tbc.

The match ended with good wishes on both sides with the game being played in a tremendous spirit, but then again we are all from the Park so what do you expect.

Up The Park !!!

Liphook friendly

A lovely day on Saturday for the friendly match against Liphook- the afternoon started with the usual introductions then a quick game of spider with proceeds going to this years charity “The Rowans Hospice”

Leigh Park ran out winners on the day, but friendship was the real winner

Rowland Cup – Semi final here we come

LPBC tonight booked their place in the Rowland Cup semi final. Tonight’s match away at Vospers saw LP win 72-88

Three of the four rinks won giving Leigh Park that strong away victory and a date at neutral Milton Park on 11th August.

Rink scores were

Rink 1 23-13
Rink 2 14-28
Rink 3 12-23
Rink 4 23-24

Fantastic result guys and hopefully this result will be repeated the A team play Vospers at home this Friday

Division 1 is proving very tough and our 3rd from bottom LPBC A team were away tonight at 4th from bottom Fareham. A lush looking green, but not so easy to play lay before us.

Rink 2 had a few vocal moments as LPBC won 12 of the 21 ends but eventually drew 19 all

Rink 3 was tight tight tight all the way and on the very last end they were down 13-15 when the Park came good and took a 5 to make it 18-15- fantastic result from the main man

Rink 4 were 6-10 down after 13 ends in what was an epic close battle – dogged persistence paid off for the Park as they took the 20th end and went 2 up, the final end saw Fareham take a single and so the Park won that rink 14-13

Rink 5 were 5-10 down after 7 ends despite a 3 on the third end. The match saw some cruel moments against us, bu5 that’s the nature of the game. The final score was LPBC 19 Fareham 25.

This meant that LPBC scored 70 to Fareham’s 72 giving LPBC 5 points and Fareham the aggregate to take 11 points.

We can survive and it’s in our hands to stay up- next match is our final home match against Vospers
